Effect of Transcranial Low-Level Light Therapy on Patients with TBI


Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is experienced by an estimated 69 million people every year.However, there are no treatments for this condition yet.

Transcranial LED therapy is a promising area of research, with potential to help various brain disorders where therapies are limited.” - Margaret Naeser, research professor of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine.

In a recent clinical trial it was found near infrared light therapy is safe and has measurable effects in the brain. This study provides the first human evidence to date that light therapy engages neural substrates that play a role in the pathophysiologic factors of moderate TBI and also suggests a therapeutic response.

MRIs showed statistically significant differences in the integrity of myelin surrounding the neurons of patients treated with RLT versus those who were not. If further trials support these findings, light therapy could become the first widely-accepted treatment for this type of injury.

Optically Improved Mitochondrial Function Redeems Aged Human Visual Decline


A few minutes of looking into red light has a dramatic effect on preventing eyesight decline as we age, according to a new study published this week in The Journals of Gerontology.

The science works as the light stimulates the health of mitochondria, which are like batteries in our cells. It also helps prevent damage to mitochondria in the retina, which leads to declining eyesight.

In the following clinical trial, there was a 14% improvement in the ability to see colors, or cone color contrast sensitivity, for the entire two dozen participants.

Even more exciting, that in the participants over 40, ther improvement was by 22%!
